Luke went to his first check-up on Tuesday. Dr. DeLapp wanted to see him to check his weight. Luke lost 10% of his birth weight while in the hospital (the maximum amount they want a baby to lose) so he had to come back early to get weighed. He was 8 lbs. 5 oz., which is good because he was down to less than 8 lb. 1 oz. when he was discharged. So he is gaining back the weight, which was a relief to me. He'll go back for his next check-up on his two week birthday, which is next Monday.
Luke seems to be eating a LOT. Sometimes he wants to eat every hour on the hour. When he nurses for 40 minutes, that gives me about a 20 minute break before he wants to nurse again! It can be tiring, for sure. Jonathan and I have worked out a system at night, though, which seems to be working well. Jonathan usually will nap or relax in the evening and I will have Luke until midnight or 1 am. Then, I pass him off to Jonathan and get some rest. Jonathan will give Luke a bottle of formula at night so I can get the extra sleep, which is great. Then he'll wake me up for Luke's next feeding (usually around 5-6am). I'll then get up and Jonathan will go to bed. The past couple nights Luke has been willing to go to sleep in his crib after the 5am feeding, letting me go back to sleep for a couple more hours. I really appreciate that! :) Jonathan only worked Monday and Tuesday and took off the rest of the week, which has been a huge blessing. I think he's doing the same thing next week, too. We are enjoying our time together with our son.

Good to hear you are all doing well. Get sleep when you can and remind yourself it will get better, sooner than later.
Glad to hear that things are going so well! Will Jon be going back to work next week?
Nathaniel went back to work pretty much right away, so I did all the getting up at night- I didn't want him to be exhausted for work. Its not too bad and I think your body will get used to it. Then Luke will start sleeping more anyway :)
He looks so much like Jon, I can't get over it!
Luke is simply adorable! And Grandpa John looks very proud too! We're so glad your son has arrived safely and we're looking forward to meeting him soon!
Kudos to Jonathan for being such a good hubby and father! Nursing was one of the most exhausting things I have ever had to do personally, but it is also very sweet and rewarding when you aren't sore anymore and they are not eating every hour or so!! I have a great book that revolutionized my life when Grace was little. It helped me get all my kids on schedules both for naps and eating. I loved it! It is called "Babywise" by Gary Ezzo. If you are the type who wants a more predictable sequence of eating/waketime/naps then you may like it. It was a lifesaver for many people that I know!
We have used "Babywise" with Linnea. I do believe it is helpful to get on a schedule early...although it does take time to find the right one. If you focus on the order it is very helpful in the beginning. But don't think that you have to be strict, remember to go with your gut or motherly instinct!
Amanda I'm so glad to hear that you are doing well!!! I remember those days of nursing ALL DAY LONG!! It is so hard to go anywhere....so I'm glad Jonathan is pitching in so you can get some much needed mommy time/rest! We can't wait to come see Luke soon! We'll have to pick a weekend when you want some guests!
